Bangkok: Former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra addressed the controversy surrounding Public Health Minister Somsak Thepsuthin's veto of the Medical Council's decision to discipline three doctors involved in his treatment. Thaksin stated that the veto falls under the minister's responsibilities, but he was uncertain if it would impact his case.
According to Thai News Agency, Thaksin responded to inquiries about the authenticity of a leaked Line chat allegedly from the Medical Council, suggesting that its origin should be questioned with the group members. He questioned why he should disclose the source of the chat, hinting at its authenticity by mentioning it was shared by a high-ranking council member.
Thaksin emphasized adherence to rules and ethics to avoid conflicts within the medical community, following Somsak's veto document that highlighted council considerations and doctor punishments. He urged Thailand to foster an unbiased environment, criticizing favoritism and media conflict.
Regarding his court appearance on June 13, Thaksin was uncertain about attending, needing legal consultation first. He dismissed concerns about potential outcomes, indicating past challenges have been more severe.
He questioned allegations by Pol. Gen. Sereepisuth Temiyawes of fleeing the country, humorously asking about the source of such claims. Thaksin dismissed new evidence from Chanchai Issarasenarak about hospital receipts, stating it was irrelevant as he wasn't the victim, and the court wouldn't accept it.
Thaksin concluded by deflecting questions about a conversation on the 14th floor of Police General Hospital, suggesting inquiries be directed elsewhere before departing the scene.
