Bangkok: The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for residents in northern and eastern southern Thailand to brace for thunderstorms affecting 70% of the region. The announcement comes as part of the department's tenth notice concerning unstable weather conditions persisting across Thailand.
According to Thai News Agency, the department has indicated that upper Thailand will face continued thunderstorms, accompanied by strong winds and heavy rainfall, especially in the northern areas. This weather pattern is expected to transition into cooler conditions due to a high-pressure system or a cold air mass moving from China over the Northeast and the South China Sea. Additionally, moisture-laden southerly and southeasterly winds from the Gulf of Thailand and the South China Sea are impacting upper Thailand, while strengthening easterly winds over the South and the Gulf of Thailand are contributing to heavy rainfall in the southern areas.
In northern Thailand, there's a 70% likelihood of thunderstorms with gusty winds and heavy rain, notably affecting the provinces of Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Lamphun, Lampang, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Nan, and Tak. Meanwhile, northeastern Thailand will experience hot weather during the day, with a 20% chance of thunderstorms.
Central and eastern regions are expected to encounter hot weather during the day, with a 40% chance of thunderstorms and occasional gusty winds. The eastern coast of the southern region also faces a 70% chance of thunderstorms and heavy rain, especially in provinces like Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat. The western coast of the southern region has a slightly lower risk, with a 60% chance of thunderstorms and heavy rain.
For Bangkok and its surrounding areas, the forecast predicts hot daytime weather with a 40% chance of thunderstorms and some gusty winds.
