Sisaket: Two soldiers sustained minor injuries after stepping on an old landmine at Phu Pha Base, Sisaket Province. They are safe and did not suffer any serious injuries.
According to Thai News Agency, the incident occurred at 10:30 AM when the 2nd Army Area Command received a report from the Suranaree Task Force. The task force stated that during a routine clearing of a firing range within the Phu Pha operational base, Sergeant Major Chakrit Buakaew, part of the 122nd Infantry Company's 40mm L60 anti-aircraft gun platoon, accidentally stepped on an old landmine. The mine did not fully detonate, causing injuries to his right foot and ankle, resulting in swelling and bruising.
In addition, Sergeant Major Sathit Phongkaew, who was assisting in the clearing operations, was struck by shrapnel and soil fragments from the explosion. Although initial assessments showed no deep wounds, he was transported for a thorough medical examination.
Following the incident, the unit promptly evacuated Sergeant Major Buakaew and Sergeant Major Phongkaew. They were taken to Kantaralak Hospital for treatment, where they arrived safely, fully conscious, and capable of responding to questions. Neither soldier suffered any loss of limbs, though both reported chest pain caused by the blast.
Authorities are currently inspecting the area to mitigate the risk posed by any remaining unexploded ordnance.
