Bangkok: Udon Thani police apprehended a young man who, hallucinating from drug use, assaulted his 75-year-old mother. Authorities spent over two hours negotiating with him before finally subduing him.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Settha Sukjai, the security officer of Mueang District, along with administrative officials and police officers from the Non Sung Sub-district Police Station, apprehended Mr. Warin, or "Tai," a 48-year-old man who was hallucinating from drug use and acting erratically. Mr. Tai was wielding two machetes inside his house and refused to be apprehended. The negotiation lasted nearly two hours, during which Mr. Tai resisted and even challenged the officers. Eventually, he lost his balance, allowing police and administrative officials to use forked poles to subdue him. He was handcuffed and transported to the Non Sung Sub-district Police Station for legal proceedings.
Mr. Sonthaya, an administrative official in Mueang Udon Thani District and Mr. Tai's uncle, disclosed that Mr. Tai had previously worked at a sub-district administrative organization but was dismissed due to methamphetamine use. Mr. Tai resides with his 75-year-old mother, whom he has taken for rehabilitation numerous times. However, she relapses shortly after, making it difficult for his wife and children to live with her. His mother had even filed a complaint with the Damrongtham Center, a government complaint center, seeking assistance in having her son arrested and prosecuted.
