US Troops Arrive in Phuket, Heightening Security Measures

Phuket:Approximately 150 officers have been deployed to manage security and traffic in anticipation of the visit of 5,000 U.S. naval personnel to Phuket. Authorities have stressed the importance of businesses being "good hosts" during this period.

According to Thai News Agency, the Governor of Phuket Province, Mr. Chotinrin Kerdsum, oversaw the deployment of officials to prepare for this significant influx of U.S. Navy personnel, who will be vacationing in Phuket from October 4-9. The deployment includes officers from the police, military, administrative officials, and local government organizations, focusing on key tourist areas such as Patong to ensure the safety of residents and visitors, as well as to facilitate travel.

The security operation is structured around three main areas: intelligence gathering, crime prevention and suppression, and traffic management. Patrols will be conducted 24 hours a day to monitor information and assess potential threats. Authorities will use buses and vans to transport personnel, aiming to minimize traffic disruptions.

Weerawich Kreuasombat, president of the Patong Beach Entertainment Association, mentioned that the presence of the U.S. Navy personnel is expected to boost Phuket's economy during a typically slow tourist period. He also encouraged local business owners to focus on providing excellent service and ensuring a positive experience for all tourists.
