Bangkok: Vietjet Thailand announced that in the first half of 2026, it generated 10 billion baht in revenue from sales and transported over 3.5 million passengers. The airline is aggressively expanding its fleet to 39 aircraft by 2027 and aims for 50 aircraft by 2028.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Woraneti Laphapang, CEO of Vietjet Thailand, revealed that over the past 10 years, the airline has laid a strong foundation for its operations and is ready to build upon its potential in the next phase through fleet expansion, increased flight frequencies, and continued investment in both personnel and technology. This aims to enhance operational efficiency, provide a better passenger experience, and support larger-scale business. The airline is focused on leveraging its strengths in key markets in the Asia-Pacific region while seeking opportunities in new, high-potential global markets to connect Thailand to a wider range of destinations. Going forward, growth will not only be about increasing the number of aircraft or routes, but also about building a strong organizational foundation, a diversified market network, and driving stable long-term growth.
Vietjet Thailand is pursuing a strategy of managing high-potential routes with an efficient fleet management plan, continuously adding Boeing 737-8 aircraft to its fleet. This is a key driver in building a foundation for future growth. Currently, the airline has 17 aircraft and aims to expand to 25 by the end of 2026, gradually increasing to 39 next year and 50 by 2028 to support increased flight frequencies, the opening of new routes, and expansion into several new potential markets.
Mr. Woraneti further stated that amidst numerous challenges, particularly the volatility of energy prices and rising operating costs, the airline has implemented a rigorous financial risk management and cost control strategy. This has resulted in maintaining strong financial stability, reflected in the first half of 2026 performance. Vietjet Thailand achieved its growth targets and surpassed pre-COVID-19 levels in all aspects, transporting over 3.5 million passengers, a 130% increase compared to the pre-COVID period. This aligns with the expansion of passenger seating capacity to 4 million seats, while maintaining a high load factor of 85%, an improvement from 2025. Revenue from sales also achieved growth, reaching 10 billion baht.
Meanwhile, the airline expanded its route network to a new record 36 routes, a 25% increase from 29 routes operated in 2025. This growth is supported by visa-free measures, the recovery of the tourism sector, and the continuous expansion of its fleet to accommodate the growth of both domestic and international travel. It is expected that business trends will accelerate significantly in the fourth quarter of 2026 and into the first quarter of 2027 due to the peak tourist season when demand for both domestic and international travel fully expands.
Mr. Pinyot Phibulsongkram, Chief Commercial and Customer Relations Officer of Vietjet Thailand, stated that Vietjet Thailand focuses on connecting high-potential tourist markets, initially with direct flights from Bangkok (Suvarnabhumi) to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; direct flights from Bangkok (Suvarnabhumi) to Jakarta, Indonesia; and direct flights connecting Phuket and Perth, Australia. The airline is also targeting the Chinese market by launching direct flights from Bangkok (Suvarnabhumi) to economic and tourism hubs such as Chongqing, Qingdao, and Zhangjiajie, as well as other routes in both scheduled and charter formats. This aims to elevate Thailand into a comprehensive regional aviation hub. The airline targets expanding its fleet to a total of 39 aircraft by 2027, which will increase passenger capacity by approximately 60% next year, or more than 14 million seats per year.
Beyond its business strengthening, Vietjet Thailand continues to advance its ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) strategy through the Fly Green project, encompassing various activities. These include environmental projects such as Garbage Hunter, the Fly Green - FlyCycle campaign that converts PET bottles into airline tickets in collaboration with retail partners, and sports tourism events like the Fly Green Charity Run 2026, now in its fourth year. This event, scheduled for November 22, 2026, at Queen Sirikit Park (Chatuchak), Bangkok, aims to promote healthy lifestyles among Thais and contribute positively to society and the environment.
Throughout the past decade, Vietjet Thailand has been committed to providing the best experience on every flight. On this occasion, the airline intends to bring joy to the heart of the city through the "10 Years of Dedication: A New Chapter Takes Flight" campaign as a gift to thank all passengers who have consistently trusted and used Vietjet Thailand. Passengers are invited to create new memories at the 10th-anniversary celebration, featuring three days of entertainment with artists, celebrities, and famous personalities, including Yin Anan Wong, Ta and Friends Family, and the Mor Lam band, Rabiep Wathasilp, from September 25th to 27th, 2026 at Central Court Zone, 1st floor, CentralWorld. Exclusive surprise promotions will also be available at this event, Mr. Pinyot concluded.
