Yotchanan Unveils Single Command Plan to Tackle Flooding in Nan Province

Nan: "Yotchanan," the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, has announced a Single Command plan to combat flooding in Nan Province. The initiative includes the evacuation of residents from Wiang Sa district, a major cleanup operation in the northern zone within two days, and the approval of livelihood funds, which will be submitted to the Cabinet for further consideration.

According to Thai News Agency, the announcement was made during a press conference at the Nan Provincial Administrative Organization office by Prof. Dr. Yoschanan Wongsawat, who is serving as the incident response commander. He was joined by Mr. Chainarong Wongyai, Governor of Nan Province, and other local officials. The press conference focused on showcasing the integrated efforts of various sectors in addressing the flood crisis.

Prof. Dr. Yoschanan emphasized the need for swift action, noting his assignment by the Prime Minister to lead the flood response. He highlighted the importance of immediate central government funding to assist impacted communities and opened channels for local agencies to voice their funding needs directly, minimizing delays in relief efforts.

He noted that since 9:00 AM, the situation has been assessed through the Single Command system, allowing for efficient distribution of resources and personnel. Praising the efforts of all sectors involved, he highlighted the continuous 24-hour work being done to manage the crisis.

Governor Chainarong Wongyai detailed the zoning of operations into two key areas: the upper regions, where water levels are receding and cleanup efforts are underway, and the central and southern regions, where water levels are rising and emergency preparations are in place. Residents have been advised to move belongings to higher ground, and hospitals are fully protected from flooding.

The Nan Provincial Administrative Organization has implemented a three-pronged strategy focusing on public health, support, and restoration. They are working with village health volunteers, providing food and relief packages, and preparing machinery to repair infrastructure. Support from vocational teams and the Nan Provincial Electricity Authority is aiding in home repairs and power restoration efforts.

Prof. Dr. Yoschanan also acknowledged the cooperation of political figures, both past and present, in addressing the crisis, highlighting the unity and shared experience in overcoming previous shortcomings.

Relief measures include two payment systems: an immediate provincial emergency fund for essential items and special flood relief funds, currently being surveyed for approval through the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation. Prof. Dr. Yoschanan assured that these measures align with the Prime Minister's directives and will be expedited for Cabinet approval.
