Bangkok: Anutin Charnvirakul acknowledged meeting Hun Manet during the ASEAN-Russia summit, stating that both sides did not want conflict. He also reiterated the commitment to moving forward with UNCLOS and maintaining constant border vigilance.
According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul addressed the security situation on the Thai-Cambodian border, stating that during the ASEAN-Russia summit and while in his hotel room, he had the opportunity to meet and speak with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet. During the meeting, Thailand reaffirmed its position and its planned actions, including discussions within the UNCLOS (United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea) framework and its stance on negotiations within other frameworks such as the Joint Border Commission (JBC).
If UNCLOS pursues a mandatory compromise approach, and if the word "compromise" is used to describe it, we would have to halt negotiations within these frameworks. This is because the Thai government has already established its own guidelines. The Thai News Agency also emphasized that preparations are underway and border surveillance remains constant.
