Bangkok Elections Set for June 28 Without Advance or Out-of-District Voting

Bangkok: The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) Permanent Secretary has confirmed that the upcoming elections for the Bangkok Governor and City Council will be held on June 28th, and will not include advance voting or out-of-district voting options. Notifications regarding reasons for not voting are accepted within seven days before or after the election.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Narong Ruangsri, Permanent Secretary of Bangkok, emphasized that the elections for the Governor and Metropolitan Council members on Sunday, June 28, 2026, will proceed without provisions for advance or out-of-district voting. This decision aligns with the Local Council Member and Local Administrator Election Act B.E. 2562 (2019). Voters are required to vote at their designated polling stations on the election day. Mr. Narong urged citizens to verify their voter registration and polling locations in advance to avoid confusion and ensure they can exercise their voting rights.

For those unable to vote on election day due to unavoidable circumstances such as urgent business, travel, or illness, there is an option to notify the authorities of their reasons. This step is crucial to prevent any future restrictions on their political rights. Notifications can be submitted from June 21-27, 2026, or within the seven days following the election, from June 29 to July 5, 2026, via the Department of Provincial Administration website. Additional election information can be accessed on the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration's Facebook page, their website, or by contacting the Election Commission hotline at 1444.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration urges all eligible voters to actively participate in the elections on June 28, 2026, between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM. This is a call to exercise democratic rights and influence the future development of Bangkok.
