Bangkok Governor Prioritizes Flood Management and Drought Concerns

Bangkok: Chatchart Sittipunt, the Governor of Bangkok, emphasizes that the city is not complacent as it continues to monitor upstream water levels and addresses flood-prone areas. He is focusing on 737 locations susceptible to flooding while expressing greater concern over drought conditions this year than rainfall.

According to Thai News Agency, Chatchart has stated that the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is actively surveying and addressing high-risk flood areas, with nearly 70% of these locations already tackled. The Governor reassures that any potential flooding in Bangkok is expected to be localized and not widespread. Monitoring of water flow from the north shows reservoir levels are not currently alarming, shifting the focus towards drought management.

Bangkok remains vigilant, closely tracking rainfall, water levels, and preparing its drainage systems, including sluice gates and pumping stations. This comprehensive approach includes dredging canals, opening waterways, and cleaning drainage pipes to minimize public impact.

Governor Chatchart also extends support to northern residents affected by flooding. The public is encouraged to stay informed on water levels and management through the BMA's Drainage Department. Reports of flooding can be made via Traffy Fondue or by calling the BMA hotline, available 24/7.
