Bangkok: The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is targeting a voter turnout of over 70% for the upcoming election scheduled on June 28, 2026, with a focus on ensuring neutrality and transparency across all involved agencies.
According to Thai News Agency, Dr. Lertlak Leelaruangsaeng, the Deputy Permanent Secretary of BMA, led a meeting to discuss public relations strategies for the elections of Bangkok Metropolitan Council members and the Bangkok Governor. The meeting, attended by BMA executives and public relations officers, took place at Bangkok City Hall and was also accessible via online conferencing. The BMA is committed to facilitating a convenient and efficient voting process for residents, with an emphasis on encouraging widespread participation, stressing the importance of each citizen's role in shaping the city's future.
Dr. Lertlak Leelaruangsaeng instructed all agencies to maintain strict neutrality, particularly by verifying and removing any signs or documents that feature names of former executives who are candidates, ensuring equality and transparency. Moreover, the BMA plans to collaborate with external networks, such as shopping malls, banks, and public transportation providers, to spread awareness and encourage civic engagement through various channels.
The meeting outlined an action plan with proactive public relations measures to achieve its goals and increase awareness among city residents. Key objectives include boosting voter turnout to at least 70%, up from around 60% in the previous election, and specifically targeting first-time voters from Generation Z. The BMA also aims to reduce invalid ballots to below 1% by providing clear instructions on the voting process.
Several campaign activities are planned to engage the public, including a TikTok Challenge that invites participants to dance to an election-themed song using sign language gestures. Additionally, an aerobics group activity will be held at Lumpini Park on June 16, 2026, with instructors incorporating election-related music into their programs. The 'I Will Go to Vote' campaign will feature on-ground activities at the Skywalk, Pathumwan Intersection, on June 19-20, 2026, to raise awareness in highly trafficked areas.
The BMA is also expanding its communication channels by launching a website, www.????????????????69.com (BangkokElection69), to serve as a central hub for candidate information and election news. Collaboration with the private sector is expected to further amplify the campaign's reach. Finally, all departments and district offices have been tasked with inspecting the accuracy of public relations signs in their areas, maintaining neutrality, and ensuring content is accessible to people with disabilities, including the use of captions in video materials.
