Deputy PM Leads Volunteer Efforts to Restore Nan City After Floods

Nan: Yotchanan, leading a team of volunteers, took charge of cleaning and restoring Nan city following the recent floods. He announced relief plans for flood victims and revealed that the Prime Minister will visit the area this weekend to discuss future flood prevention measures, including water retention areas, reservoirs, and dams.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Yotsanu Wongsawat, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, visited the urban restoration area in Nan Municipality, taking part in cleaning efforts and encouraging volunteers involved in the city's recovery. The large-scale cleanup, particularly on Sumonthawarat Road, saw collaboration from various sectors, with support from the Nan Provincial Administrative Organization, the Royal Irrigation Department, and military personnel.

Mr. Yotsanan, along with Nan Governor Mr. Chainarong Wongyai, actively participated in the cleanup, using high-pressure hoses to remove mud alongside volunteers and government officials. The Mayor of Nan City expressed gratitude to government representatives for their support during the recovery phase.

Mr. Yotsanan highlighted the Prime Minister's concern and commitment to expedite relief and compensation measures for flood victims. Despite the short duration of the flooding, significant damage occurred, necessitating comprehensive support for affected citizens. The Prime Minister's upcoming visit aims to ensure integrated cooperation among ministries to expedite relief efforts.

Addressing long-term flood prevention, Mr. Yotchanan discussed proposed plans by the Royal Irrigation Department, emphasizing the creation of water retention areas to manage floodwaters before they reach the city. Additionally, advancements in disaster warning systems, transitioning from GIS to Digital Twin technology, were emphasized for more accurate flood alerts.

Mr. Yotsanan is scheduled to attend a meeting with governors from 17 northern provinces before traveling to Pua District, Nan Province, to continue monitoring and assisting with relief efforts.
