Entertainment Complex Bill Awaits Parliamentary Discussion, Says Minister

Bangkok: The comprehensive entertainment venue law, known as the Entertainment Complex Act, remains a topic of significant interest as it awaits introduction to the parliament. Chalermchai Sri-on, the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment and leader of the Democrat Party, emphasized the necessity of consulting both Members of Parliament (MPs) and the executive committee should the bill advance to the legislative stage.

According to Thai News Agency, Chalermchai addressed the Democrat Party’s stance on the draft bill, acknowledging that its postponement by the government leaves its future uncertain. He highlighted the importance of collective decision-making within the party, stating that discussions would be held with MPs and the executive committee to ensure all perspectives are considered. He underscored the need for careful deliberation when the time for a decision arrives.

Chalermchai further clarified that there currently are no tensions among coalition parties regarding the Entertainment Complex Bill, as it has yet to be tabled in parliament. He acknowledged the absence of a concrete timeline for its submission but anticipated that prior to its introduction, there would be ample opportunity for consultation with key stakeholders, including MPs and the executive committee.

The minister noted that discussions on the bill might align with the reopening of the parliamentary session. He mentioned that currently, the session is closed, and MPs are engaged in constituency activities. Should discussions happen, they might initially involve a small group of 3-5 people. However, Chalermchai emphasized that for matters of such importance, broader input from both MPs and the executive committee would be crucial to ensure shared responsibility.

Chalermchai also addressed concerns about potential issues within the Entertainment Complex Act, reaffirming that decisions within the Democrat Party are made collectively. He stressed that individual statements do not reflect the party’s position and that any direction taken by the party would result from a joint resolution, adhering to long-standing principles and systems.
