Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan Transferred to Hospital for Urgent Treatment

Islamabad: The former Pakistani prime minister has been sent to hospital on a court order. The Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI), an opposition party, revealed that former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, who has been imprisoned for more than three years, has been transferred from Adiyala Prison to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad for urgent medical treatment, as ordered by the Supreme Court.

According to Thai News Agency, this move marks the first sign of easing tensions between the PTI party and the Pakistani military, after his lawyers stated that the 73-year-old former leader's health had deteriorated significantly during his detention, particularly his right eye, which had suffered significant vision loss. This is despite the government's earlier denial of critical medical reports. A spokesman for the Pakistani opposition party confirmed that Imran Khan had been returned to prison after a brief hospital visit the previous night.

The transfer of the former prime minister drew attention from the public and supporters who had gathered to show their solidarity outside the hospital before police officers intervened to maintain order. A PTI party spokesperson stated that the court order represented a new glimmer of hope, but the party remains committed to its plans for nationwide protests on September 27th to demand access to the former leader, expedited legal proceedings, and his release from charges which he claims are politically motivated.
