General Hi Calls for Discretion in Arrests of Armed Rangers

Bangkok: "General Hi" has expressed sympathy for the rangers apprehended for carrying firearms, highlighting the challenges they face. He emphasized, "They survived death on the border only to become suspects," and urged for discretion in handling such cases, recognizing the daily risks these individuals endure.

According to Thai News Agency, Dr. Himalai Phiwphan, an advisor to the leader of the Kla Tham Party, shared his views on the arrest of a paramilitary soldier charged with carrying weapons after returning from duty in the three southern border provinces. The arrest, executed by a police unit in a designated safe zone, echoes past incidents involving both soldiers and police officers. Dr. Phiwphan recalled a notable case where a police officer from the southern border provinces was detained while on leave visiting family. His social media post reiterated, "He survived on the border only to become a suspect."

Dr. Phiwphan urged those working in urban areas to exercise careful discretion, clarifying that his intent was not to criticize but to advocate fairness for those operating in high-risk zones who face constant danger.
