Bangkok: The House Committee on Military Affairs is set to summon key officials to explain the construction of a military camp in the wrong location, bypassing the designated Khao Kradong area. Mr. Wiroj Lakkhanaadisorn, chairman of the House of Representatives' Military Affairs Committee and a party-list MP of the Prachachon Party, announced that the committee plans to meet on November 28. They have invited several officials, including the governor of the State Railway of Thailand (SRT), the governor of Buriram Province, and senior officials from the Ministry of Interior, as well as the commander of the 26th Military Circle, to address concerns about the camp's location. According to Thai News Agency, the controversy arises from allegations that the 26th Military Circle Camp was constructed in a different location than originally permitted. The camp, initially approved to be built adjacent to Khao Kradong in 1978, was instead established 2 kilometers away, next to private land, without the necessary permiss ions. Mr. Thopong Chinjainam, a former candidate for Buriram MP and advisor to the committee, highlighted these discrepancies and suggested that the original site was already claimed by the State Railway of Thailand following a Supreme Court ruling. The committee advisor also expressed concerns over repeated changes to land and mile markers in Buriram Province, questioning whether these adjustments served particular interests. The committee aims to clarify these issues during the upcoming meeting with relevant agencies to ensure transparency and accountability in the military camp's construction process.
