Bangkok: His Majesty the King has graciously granted special cremation or burial grounds to those who perished in the devastating floods in the southern provinces. The Ministry of Culture is working swiftly to facilitate these arrangements.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Sabida Thaiset, the Minister of Culture, announced the royal grant following the severe flooding that resulted in numerous fatalities. His Majesty has also provided a financial assistance of 20,000 baht to each affected individual. This act of royal compassion has been met with immense gratitude and relief by the bereaved families and communities.
The Minister of Culture outlined the Ministry’s preparedness and collaboration with relevant agencies. The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Culture has been tasked with organizing a meeting with executives and cultural officials from the affected provinces. The aim is to set up a coordination center, establish a death reporting system, and liaise with hospitals and provincial governors. The Ministry is also responsible for preparing the necessary documentation to seek royal permission in line with the Bureau of the Royal Household’s procedures.
Additionally, provincial cultural officials have been directed to expedite the submission of the deceased’s names to the Royal Funeral Ceremony Division. This division is responsible for preparing the royal cremation and soil boxes. Coordination with the relatives of the deceased is being prioritized to ensure that the royal funeral ceremonies proceed smoothly and respectfully. The ceremonies will be presided over by the provincial governor or a designated representative, as instructed by the Bureau of the Royal Household. Southern provincial cultural officials have been asked to report daily to ensure personnel safety and to request central government support if necessary. Mrs. Chotika Akkarakitsopakul, the Deputy Permanent Secretary for Culture, has been appointed to oversee the implementation of the royal directive.
The Minister of Culture emphasized that this royal gesture has provided significant comfort and encouragement to those affected by the disaster. He assured that the Ministry of Culture is committed to conveying His Majesty’s message of concern and will execute each step of the process with the utmost integrity and honor.
