Mallika’s Visit to Tao Poon Market Draws Large Fan Base

Bangkok: Mallika Boonmeetrakul Mahasuk, candidate for Bangkok Governor number 14, visited the Tao Poon market, drawing a large number of fans as she highlighted her plan to increase income, reduce expenses, and support vulnerable groups during the economic crisis.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Mallika engaged with residents and vendors, listening to their concerns about the economic situation and consumer spending. She acknowledged that, despite the "Half-Price" scheme to encourage spending during stay-at-home orders, financial activity has not returned to normal, making the cost of living a serious concern for many.

Ms. Mallika outlined her strategic plan to address the crisis, focusing on generating income and reducing expenses in response to high energy prices. She emphasized that, while the central government has implemented some measures, Bangkok's unique authority to manage its own budget allows for additional initiatives to alleviate the cost of living.

Proposals include reducing gas and energy costs, expanding zones for discounted goods, and offering free public transportation through Bangkok Metropolitan Administration coupons during crises. These efforts aim to support vulnerable households, with additional welfare allowances planned for the elderly and children via a special BMA budget. A dedicated economic team will manage budget allocation and reallocate funds, representing a significant step forward for Bangkok under the proposed leadership of Ms. Mallika.
