Chanthaburi: The Eastern Border Provinces Military Command has launched Operation “Trat Suppresses the Enemy,” mobilizing forces from all dimensions to secure the strategic area of ‘Ban Sam Lang’ (Three Houses Village). The operation, backed by naval and ground artillery support from the HTMS Thepa, has successfully captured 80% of the targeted area.
According to Thai News Agency, the Chanthaburi and Trat Border Protection Force (CBPF) reported the necessity of the operation due to escalating tensions along the Thai-Cambodian border, particularly in the Chanthaburi and Trat provinces. These areas fall under the jurisdiction of the Royal Thai Navy, and the operation aims to safeguard Thailand’s territorial sovereignty through coordinated efforts across water, air, and land.
The HTMS Thepa was quick to enter the operational zone, maintaining 24-hour surveillance and patrols. Its crew was on high alert, with all weapons systems primed for immediate response to any emerging threats.
On December 9, the HTMS Thepa played a crucial role by providing naval artillery and land-based support, leading to the destruction of a Cambodian stronghold in the ‘Ban Sam Lang’ area of Ban Nong Ri. The Marine Corps forces succeeded in burning down all three houses and destroying a bunker suspected of storing equipment and ammunition, marking the completion of 80% of the operation.
Despite these advancements, the Cambodian forces have fortified their positions by digging bunkers and trenches, using heavy artillery to counter the Thai offensive. Consequently, the complete security of the area remains a challenge for the Chanthaburi and Trat border defense troops as they continue their efforts to fully secure the region.
