Phumtham Denies Political Interference in PM’s Son Default Case

Bangkok: Phumtham Vejchai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, has firmly dismissed allegations of political interference in the case involving Mr. Smitthipat Leenawarat, son of Kritsada Leenawarat, the Mayor of Thanyaburi Subdistrict Municipality. The incident in question involved Smitthipat driving a luxury car and cutting off a pickup truck.

According to Thai News Agency, Phumtham, who is also a leader of the Pheu Thai Party, addressed rumors suggesting that a senior figure had instructed Kan Jom Phalang to cease any assistance to the opposing party linked to Smitthipat. Phumtham clarified that no such directive was given and emphasized that the individual referred to as the “big boss” is unrelated to the Pheu Thai Party’s actions. He assured that the case would proceed without political interference.

Phumtham further emphasized that the public need not worry about political linkage in this case. He shared that he recently met with the national police chief and leaders of the four armed forces, reiterating his commitment to allowing the legal process to unfold independently. Phumtham stressed the importance of transparency, particularly because his brother is a Member of Parliament for the Pheu Thai Party, and made it clear that no orders were issued by him or any party officials to influence the case.
