Prime Minister Launches Mega Halal Bangkok 2026 to Boost Thailand’s Halal Industry

Bangkok: The Prime Minister officially opened the Mega Halal Bangkok 2026 event, aiming to elevate the standards of Thailand's halal industry, enhance consumer confidence, tackle industry challenges, and position Thailand as the ASEAN halal economic hub. The event also emphasized Thailand's role as the "World's Kitchen" and aimed to integrate SMEs into the global supply chain to create growth opportunities.

According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul presided over the event, delivering the opening speech. He highlighted the global economy's ongoing changes, such as climate change, geopolitical uncertainties, and supply chain issues, which are reshaping the food landscape and making food security a pressing challenge.

The Prime Minister emphasized the growing importance of consumer trust, noting that modern consumers are increasingly concerned about the origins, production processes, and trustworthiness of their purchases. He stated that trust in quality, standards, safety, and producers is crucial in the halal economy.

Additionally, the Prime Minister noted that halal certification has transcended its religious roots to become an internationally recognized standard of quality, integrity, and consumer trust. This evolution benefits not only Muslim consumers but also those seeking assurance in their product choices.

He further stated that the halal economy is one of the fastest-growing sectors worldwide, offering Thailand the opportunity to strengthen its food system, support farmers and entrepreneurs, and contribute to global food security. Thailand, known as the "Kitchen of the World," aims to become a Trusted Global Food Security Partner, providing reliable food and services globally.

The Prime Minister also elaborated on Thailand's potential to become the ASEAN halal economic hub, connecting Southeast Asia with the Muslim world. This vision leverages Thailand's strategic location, thriving food industry, world-class manufacturing, recognized healthcare sectors, and modern transportation infrastructure.

He stressed that achieving hub status requires more than geographical advantages; it demands credibility, high standards, and strong cooperation. Thus, Thailand is investing in upgrading halal standards, scientific research, certification systems, logistics, digital trade, and innovation.

The government supports SMEs and young entrepreneurs to participate in the global halal economic value chain, believing in the benefits they can gain from the halal economy's growth.

The Prime Minister concluded by highlighting Mega Halal Bangkok as a platform for businesses to exchange ideas and develop collaborations. It provides local producers with global market access and fosters international opportunities. He called for collective efforts to create a safe food system, resilient supply chain, and inclusive economic system.
