Rapper Milli Appointed as Honorary Public Diplomacy Supporter by Korean Embassy

Bangkok: The Korean Embassy has appointed rapper Milli as an honorary assistant in public diplomacy. The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Thailand appointed rapper "Milli" (Danupa Kanatheerakul) as an Honorary Public Diplomacy Supporter on May 15th.

According to Thai News Agency, the appointment ceremony was held at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Thailand, attended by Mr. Park Yong-min, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Thailand, and the 15 public diplomacy assistants selected this year. The Embassy explained that Milli was chosen because of her contributions to promoting understanding between the two countries through her work that creatively blends Thai and Korean cultures.

Previously, rapper Milli garnered significant attention after making history as the first foreigner to reach the finals of Show Me the Money Season 12, South Korea's national hip-hop competition, last April. The Embassy therefore praised and commended Milli as an example of public diplomacy through music and K-Content, which promotes cultural exchange between Thailand and Korea. Ambassador Park Yong-min of the Republic of Korea to Thailand stated, 'Milli has directly entered the world of Korean popular culture and communicated with people of both countries through her music. She has also contributed to spreading awareness of both Thai and Korean cultures.' He also praised Milli for her courage to take on new challenges and expressed hope to see more of her work in Korea in the future.

The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Thailand has been regularly selecting and supporting public diplomacy assistants every year. This year, the 7th cohort of 15 assistants has officially begun their activities. At the event, Milli also shared her experiences on global communication through music and K-Content to inspire the program participants.
