Sa Kaeo: The Supreme Court has upheld the life sentence for Mr. Chumphon, a former school director, who was convicted of murdering 18-year-old Nong Liu and disposing of her body in a sugarcane field in 2012. The court also ordered him to pay 1.7 million baht in compensation. According to Thai News Agency, the Sa Kaeo Provincial Prosecutor's Office had initially filed a lawsuit against Mr. Chumphon. The lower court had sentenced him to life imprisonment, a decision that he appealed. However, the Court of Appeal upheld the life sentence, leading Mr. Chumphon to take his case to the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court recently confirmed the rulings of both the lower court and the Court of Appeal, maintaining the life sentence and the compensation order of 1.7 million baht. This decision marks the conclusion of the legal proceedings against Mr. Chumphon. Mr. Somsak, the father of Nong Liu, expressed that justice has been served following the verdict. After hearing the decision, he visited his wife, who is current ly receiving treatment at a hospital, to share the outcome of the case.
