Tattoo Artist Arrested for Car Theft on Blind Dates

Buriram: A tattoo artist was arrested for setting up a blind date with a young woman before stealing her car and fleeing. A young tattoo artist, struggling with insufficient funds, tricked women into meeting him through a dating site before stealing his motorcycle and selling it. He was so emboldened he tried to do it four times that he was ultimately caught by police at a train station.

According to Thai News Agency, Buriram City Police arrested 27-year-old Chonburi man Ratthamon, also known as Bas, at Bangkok’s Bang Sue Railway Station. He was accused of luring women on blind dates through a dating website before stealing a motorcycle and fleeing. Ms. Malisa, also known as “May,” 39, filed a police report at Buriram City Police Station, alleging that she met Ratthamon at a resort in Buriram City on November 22nd. The suspect then stole her grey-and-black Honda motorcycle, license plate 2 5189 Buriram, and fled the scene after being unable to contact her. She also claimed she had rented a room at the resort using a fake ID card.

Police brought Mr. Ratthamon back for questioning at Buriram City Police Station, the scene of the incident. He confessed to all charges, admitting to having committed the same crime four times in various provinces, including Lopburi, Hua Hin, Prachuap Khiri Khan, and Buriram. He also stole helmets from a department store because he had only a motorcycle but no helmets. He then took the motorcycles to sell in Chonburi Province, earning approximately 12,000 baht each time. He allegedly committed the crime because his tattooing job lacked customers, leaving him without money, so he sought a new career in theft, which he used to spend money and party.

Initially, the police charged the suspect with “theft.” The suspect also urged other victims to report the case immediately, so that they can be prosecuted simultaneously and face only one jail term.
