Bangkok: The Office of the Basic Education Commission has confirmed that schools across Thailand can still accommodate 300,000 additional students from Mathayom 1 to Mathayom 4. The government is firm on ensuring that every child has a place to study.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Karom Polpornklang, Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister’s Office, stated that the Basic Education Commission has completed the acceptance of students in Mathayom 1 and Mathayom 4, with the selection process concluded on April 10, 2025. Currently, 1,097,902 students have secured places in schools under the Office of the Basic Education Commission, distributed across various educational levels.
Mr. Karom highlighted that for students still without a place, there are available spots for over 300,000 students in schools with unfilled admission plans. This includes 217,286 vacancies for Grade 7 and 97,511 for Grade 10. As of April 21, 2025, 18,737 students have applied for placement nationwide, with results set to be announced by April 27, and schools in Bangkok releasing results between April 23-24.
Post-announcement, it is anticipated that Bangkok schools will have over 6,500 seats available. Students lacking placement can apply to the Office of the Basic Education Commission to ensure every child is accommodated. Despite the start of the first semester of 2025, schools with vacant seats remain open to enrolling students without places or those out of the education system aged 3-18.
Mr. Karam emphasized the government’s focus on addressing the dropout issue, aligning with OBEC’s Zero Dropout policy to provide equitable and universal quality education for all Thai children, fostering a conducive learning environment as per the Ministry of Education’s guidelines.
