Trump Booed During First NBA Finals Attendance

Bangkok: U.S. President Donald Trump was met with boos and jeers from the crowd during Game 3 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden. This marked the first time a sitting U.S. president attended an NBA Finals game, creating an atmosphere of mixed reactions.

According to Thai News Agency, the atmosphere at Madison Square Garden was immediately charged with disapproval as Trump appeared on the jumbo screen during the national anthem. He was seen smiling and saluting the flag amid the protests. Trump's appearance was alongside New York Knicks owner James Dolan.

The reception was expected given New York City's Democratic leanings, but the frustration was heightened due to the significant security measures implemented for Trump's visit. The Secret Service and New York Police Department enforced a strict lockdown around the arena, affecting public transportation and causing significant delays for fans attending the game.

Security protocols led to the cancellation of a planned Watch Party event, much to the disappointment of local fans. The event was relocated to Bryant Park, with many fans expressing anger over the disruption. Even press staff and stadium officials faced challenges due to long queues and restricted access to player areas.

The game's outcome added to the home fans' frustrations as the New York Knicks lost to the San Antonio Spurs, ending their impressive home winning streak. Despite the loss, the Knicks maintain a 2-1 lead in the series.

The incident drew criticism from various quarters. Democratic politician Hakeem Jeffries condemned Trump's presence as a distraction from the celebration of New York basketball. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver noted that Trump attended with the belief that sports can unite people from different backgrounds.
