Worapak Thanyawong Denies Involvement with Transnational Scammer Gang, Seeks to Clarify with US

Bangkok: Worapak Thanyawong has asserted his non-involvement with a transnational scammer gang and expressed his willingness to clarify his position to US authorities after his name surfaced in an investigation.

According to Thai News Agency, Worapak clarified following the appearance of his name in a letter from a US committee, linking him to scammers. He emphasized that the mention was part of an investigation by a US agency and not a definitive ruling or judgment against him. Worapak has reportedly coordinated with the US Treasury Department to provide necessary evidence for clarification.

In a statement released on September 16, 2026, Mr. Worapak addressed reports indicating his name in a correspondence from the chairman of a House of Representatives committee to the US Department of State and the US Department of the Treasury. The letter reportedly requested these agencies to investigate whether individuals listed met the legal criteria for sanctions. Worapak clarified that the letter did not imply that he had committed any wrongdoing or that he was sanctioned by the US.

He firmly stated his non-involvement in activities such as Scam Centers, money laundering, human trafficking, cybercrime, or any transnational crime. He also confirmed having contacted the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the U.S. Treasury Department to submit facts and evidence for consideration by US agencies.

Furthermore, Mr. Worapak mentioned his ongoing efforts to communicate with the chairpersons of both committees, seeking an opportunity to clarify the facts and obtain related information to respond to inquiries. He stressed the importance of addressing serious allegations with factual evidence, documents, and verifiable processes.

Regarding previous allegations, Mr. Worapak noted his decision to pursue the judicial process, filing defamation lawsuits against those who published the allegations. One case has been accepted for court consideration, while another awaits a ruling following a preliminary hearing.

Mr. Worapak refrained from speculating on any connection between his name appearing in the US document and the allegations being prosecuted in Thailand. He committed to using facts, evidence, and verifiable processes to clarify matters to both Thai courts and US agencies. He declined to disclose specifics of the allegations under Thai court consideration to avoid influencing the judicial process, promising appropriate updates on the progress.
