Aerobics Dance with Long Drums Boosts Tourism at Yasothon Festival

Yasothon: An enjoyable aerobics dance performance accompanied by adapted long drum rhythms marked a vibrant opening to the Thung Tae Rocket Festival, organized by the Thung Tae Subdistrict Municipality in Mueang Yasothon District. The event aimed to promote health and stimulate local tourism while showcasing the rich cultural traditions of the Isaan people.

According to Thai News Agency, the event was orchestrated by Mr. Ekakrit Charoensap, Mayor of Thung Tae Subdistrict Municipality, in partnership with the Thung Tae Subdistrict Cultural Council. Held at the multipurpose area of Thung Nong Kham, the aerobics dance, known as Thai Fit Long Drum, was part of the opening ceremony's festivities. The initiative encouraged community engagement in preserving and continuing the vibrant cultural heritage of the region.

The Bun Bang Fai festival, traditionally celebrated during the sixth lunar month, is deeply rooted in the rain-making traditions of the Isaan people. This year, the festival's opening ceremony not only featured competitions for Bang Fai rocket song recitations and dances but also introduced an innovative aerobics session. Set to traditional folk music with adapted long drum rhythms, the session included melodies from the phin, a type of lute, and keyboards playing the "Pa Peung Bom" tune. This fusion created a unique dimension to Thai-style aerobics, blending physical activity with cultural preservation.
