Bangkok: The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is accelerating the renovation of Pom Mahakan Park in preparation for the "River of Life" event, commemorating His Majesty the King. Mr. Thaiwut Khankaew, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, visited Pom Mahakan Public Park in Phra Nakhon District to monitor the readiness and assign tasks to relevant agencies for the event, which will honor His Majesty the King's 74th birthday anniversary. Scheduled to take place from July 24-26, 2026, the event will be held at Pom Mahakan Public Park in Phra Nakhon District.
According to Thai News Agency, the Deputy Permanent Secretary of Bangkok has tasked relevant agencies with preparing a site plan to ensure the readiness and suitability of various activities planned for the event. This includes designating areas for the stage, LED screens, commemorative exhibitions, shops, and public service activities such as blood donation, pet vaccination and microchipping services, motorcycle oil changes, and accommodating spaces for attendees.
Instructions have also been given to expedite improvements to the surrounding area, focusing on enhancing the landscape's aesthetics, orderliness, and safety. This involves upgrading walkways, adding more grass, planting trees, improving water quality in the canals, managing water levels, removing debris from waterways, and renovating the pier area to ensure it is clean, stable, and ready for water activities. The goal is to ensure the event proceeds smoothly and respectfully, leaving a positive impression on the public.
The event, titled 'The River of Life, Under the Royal Patronage: Continuing the Rattanakosin Tradition,' is organized by the Phra Nakhon District Office in collaboration with partner networks. It will be held from July 24-26, 2026, at Pom Mahakan Park, Khlong Ong Ang Walking Street, and Khlong Phadung Krung Kasem. Key activities will feature alms giving on the water, documentary and short film screenings in honor of His Majesty, community economic development activities, blood donation drives, and services such as sterilization, vaccination, and microchipping for pets.
This event aims to connect the waterway network around Bangkok in the Rattanakosin Island area, linking transportation, tourism, and historical learning of the old city. It also seeks to improve the quality of life for the homeless and promote the well-being of residents and communities along the canals.
