Lampang: A former official of the Irrigation Department, found with a blood alcohol level of 225 milligrams, is set to face charges in court today following a car accident and altercation in Lampang Municipality.
According to Thai News Agency, the incident occurred around 9:45 PM on June 1st, 2026, on Thipwan Road near the Sri Chum intersection. Police responded to a report of a car accident and a dispute between two parties. Upon arrival, they found the two parties engaged in a heated argument. Both parties were then taken for alcohol testing. Mr. Chakrit and his wife, owners of the damaged Camry, showed reporters their vehicle and explained that they initially did not intend to demand compensation. However, they decided to seek justice after the other party refused to take a breathalyzer test, as captured in a video clip.
The victim revealed that the perpetrator attempted to evade the breathalyzer test and tried to flee. It took nearly an hour for the victim to ensure the test was conducted. The police eventually recorded a blood alcohol level of 225 milligrams for the former official. Additionally, two bottles of liquor were found in the vehicle, one empty and the other half-empty.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Narupol Rodpises, the investigating officer, stated that the perpetrator is a former civil servant who resigned from the Royal Irrigation Department 2-3 years ago. The initial charges include drunk driving, reckless driving causing property damage, and driving under the influence. The accused was released on bail with a bond of 20,000 baht and is expected to appear in court today.
The victim has agreed to an initial compensation of approximately 50,000 baht through the insurance company. This amount covers vehicle repairs estimated at 35,000 baht and compensation for lost income during repairs, which involves renting a vehicle for about two weeks at approximately 15,000 baht. The police will continue to handle the criminal case as per legal procedures.
