Government Seeks Final Feedback on Draft Cannabis Act Before Cabinet Submission

Bangkok: The government is seeking final feedback on the draft Cannabis Act until July 1st before submitting it to the Cabinet. The initiative aims to shape the direction of cannabis and hemp legislation through two main online channels from today until July 1st, 2026.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Ploytalay Laksameesangchan, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, announced that the government is proceeding with the second phase of gathering public opinion on the draft Cannabis and Hemp Act B.E. .... from today until July 1, 2026. The feedback gathered will be instrumental in refining the law, ensuring it is both comprehensive and relevant to current societal needs. This public consultation process is structured into two phases, as per the Cabinet resolution of March 10, 2026.

Phase 1, which occurred from April 22 to May 21, 2026, has been completed and involved collecting feedback on the project's fundamental principles. Phase 2, currently underway from June 2 to July 1, 2026, focuses on gathering direct feedback on the specifics of the draft Act. Once this feedback period concludes, the draft is expected to be reviewed and approved by the Minister of Public Health before being submitted to the Cabinet for further evaluation.

"This draft bill will establish clear rules and control measures to prevent the misuse of cannabis, ensuring public health security and contributing to the sustainable development of the country's economic system. The public consultation is crucial in creating a well-considered law that reflects current realities and addresses concerns from all sectors, achieving a balance between medical and economic uses," Ms. Ploytalay emphasized.

The government, through the Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine, encourages participation from the public, businesses, and all stakeholders in shaping the cannabis and hemp laws in Thailand. Participants can provide feedback via two main online platforms: the central legal system at www.law.go.th and the Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine's website at www.dtam.moph.go.th.
