Permanent Secretary of Interior Ministry Takes Legal Action Against Facebook Page for Defamation

Bangkok: The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior has initiated legal proceedings against the Facebook fan page CSI LA, accusing it of spreading false information that has led to defamation and public disdain.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Arsit Sampanrat, the Permanent Secretary, addressed the situation at the Ministry of Interior on June 28, 2026, concerning the alleged misinformation distributed by CSI LA. On June 29, 2026, Mr. Sampanrat authorized legal representatives from the Legal Division of the Office of the Permanent Secretary to lodge a formal complaint with the Crime Suppression Division, Central Investigation Bureau.

A legal officer, acting on behalf of Mr. Sampanrat, disclosed that the complaint targets those involved in circulating a video on the Facebook page "CSI LA." The page allegedly posted a message suggesting the involvement of Mr. Sampanrat's wife in a 4.5 billion baht local government exam cheating scandal, accompanied by a 5.02-minute audio clip. The message implied that a powerful figure was behind the corruption but was attempting to shift the blame to lower-level officials.

The Permanent Secretary argues that the dissemination of this message constitutes defamation, as it presents supposed facts to a third party with the intent to tarnish reputations, incite public insult, or hatred. This portrayal, according to the legal representative, is misleading and not protected as a legitimate expression of opinion, causing harm to the parties involved, including Mr. Sampanrat.
