Phuket: Phuket has issued a red alert, urging residents to move belongings to higher ground after widespread flooding. The Krabi Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office also warns of overflowing riverbanks in Tambon Thap Prik. The Phuket City Municipality has advised residents to prepare for potential flooding due to heavy and accumulated rainfall, which has caused the Bang Yai Canal water levels to rise over 3 meters. Officials are working to drain the water to lessen the impact on residents.
According to Thai News Agency, the Krabi Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office has issued warnings about cell broadcast flooding due to overflowing riverbanks. In Phuket, heavy rain has been ongoing since early morning, leading to flooding on several roads in Phuket City. Areas affected include the Clock Tower roundabout, in front of Kota Khao Man Gai restaurant, and other key intersections and roads. In the Kathu district, flooding has been reported in Patong and surrounding areas. As of now, no flooding has been reported in Thalang district.
The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation has also issued warnings due to accumulated rainfall in upstream areas, which has caused rising water levels in the Krabi Yai Canal. This rise is expected to impact low-lying areas and communities such as Ruam Jai Chon and Ban Tha Khlong. Residents are advised to take precautions, including moving belongings and vehicles to higher ground, securing valuables, and ensuring safety against electric shock.
In collaboration with mobile phone network providers, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation has sent alerts via cell broadcast to warn residents of the potential overflow in Tambon Thap Prik and Tambon Krabi Yai, urging them to take necessary precautions.
