Suchart Chomklin Directs Urgent Land Rights Verification at Thap Lan National Park

Bangkok: The Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, Suchart Chomklin, has issued a directive to expedite the verification of land rights within Thap Lan National Park, emphasizing transparency and impartiality in the process.

According to Thai News Agency, representatives from the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation have assured the parliamentary Committee on Land, Natural Resources, and Environment of their commitment to conducting a transparent and fair plot-by-plot land ownership verification.

Mr. Prawatichart Chanthep, head of Thap Lan National Park, along with other representatives from the Department, briefed the House Committee, confirming their readiness to accelerate the process as per the Minister's policy. They highlighted that the verification would be meticulous and based on legal evidence, aiming to resolve the overlapping land issues within the Park, which spans parts of Nakhon Ratchasima and Prachinburi provinces.

Director-General Atthapol Charoenchansa stated the Ministry's dedication to restoring justice for the indigenous people who had inhabited and farmed the land before its designation as a national park. The Department plans to take strong legal action against those illegally holding land or capital groups exploiting the area for profit. The process will involve collecting evidence, including aerial photographs and historical land use records, to ensure comprehensive assessment and management.

Mr. Suchart Chomklin is scheduled to lead the verification committee's visit to Thap Lan National Park on June 28th to engage with local residents and assess land ownership claims. This initiative aims to address whether occupants have legitimate claims based on prior residency or cultivation before the park's establishment. The Ministry seeks a fair resolution for all parties while ensuring the conservation of forest areas and natural resources.
