Bangkok: The Royal Thai Army has countered recent allegations from Cambodia, stating that Thailand should not be blamed for what they describe as Cambodia's own mistakes.
According to Thai News Agency, the Royal Thai Army's spokesperson, Major General Winthai Suvari, responded to a statement released on July 5, 2026, by the Cambodian Ministry of Defense. The statement alleged that an explosion in the border area of Ban Thmordon, Oddar Meanchey Province, resulted in injuries to four Cambodian soldiers following a confrontation near a barbed wire fence. The Royal Thai Army refutes these claims, emphasizing that Thailand was not the instigator of the incident.
Major General Suvari highlighted three main points in his response. Firstly, he urged the Cambodian authorities to accurately report the facts and not attribute incidents arising from their own negligence or disciplinary issues to Thailand. He insisted that any accusations against Thailand should be substantiated with clear evidence.
Secondly, Suvari affirmed Thailand's commitment to the established rules and agreements, particularly during the ceasefire. He noted that the use of weapons by Thai forces is strictly governed by international rules and is considered a last resort, only permissible in self-defense when faced with an imminent threat. As such, he argued, it is highly improbable that the incident could have been initiated by the Thai side.
Lastly, the spokesperson called on Cambodia to stop spreading what he termed as distorted information that could damage Thailand's reputation. He emphasized that such actions would hinder the peaceful resolution efforts that both nations have been striving towards.
