Bangkok: Thai Oil and the Department of Energy (DOE) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to develop, improve, and promote the use of renewable solar energy. The agreement aims to enhance public-private partnership models in renewable energy initiatives.
According to Thai News Agency, the collaboration involves Thai Oil Public Company Limited and the Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency (DEDE) of the Ministry of Energy. The MOU focuses on renewable energy development for public health agencies and educational institutions, aiming to bolster energy security in remote areas and support Thailand's net-zero greenhouse gas emissions goal. The signing ceremony occurred at the Energy Complex in Bangkok.
Mr. Pongphan Amornvivat, CEO and President of Thai Oil, emphasized the company's commitment to social and environmental responsibility, highlighting efforts towards energy efficiency and renewable energy promotion. He reiterated Thai Oil's goal to achieve Net Zero by 2050 through systematic reduction, offsetting, and control of greenhouse gas emissions.
Since 2018, Thai Oil has been active in installing solar power systems for public health facilities and educational institutions. The company has installed solar systems in over 24 locations, with a total capacity of 492.48 kilowatts, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by over 428 tons of CO2 equivalent annually. By 2026, Thai Oil plans to expand installations to 11 additional locations, focusing on the Northeast region and Chonburi province.
The MOU with the DOE showcases the synergy between public and private sectors to enhance access to renewable energy in underserved areas, aligning with Thailand's sustainable net-zero emission targets.
Ms. Nanthika Thangsupanich, Director-General of DEDE, remarked on the government's clean energy policy, emphasizing the collaboration's role in advancing renewable energy development and improving quality of life in remote areas.
Thai Oil and the Department of Energy Development and Promotion (DEP) will collaborate to transfer solar power maintenance skills to local personnel, fostering a self-reliant energy management model. The partnership will focus on selecting hospitals, public health facilities, and schools in need, with DEDP providing academic support and engineering guidelines, while Thai Oil offers resources, technology, and system installation.
The partnership is expected to serve as a transparent, verifiable model for future cooperation in renewable energy initiatives.
