Bangkok: Thailand is sending a large contingent to compete in the 2026 Asian Games, with the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) intensively preparing the team in the final three months.
According to Thai News Agency, Dr. Kongsak Yodmani, Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT), revealed the readiness of the Thai national team for the 20th Asian Games, scheduled from September 19th to October 4th, 2026, in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. The SAT, the National Sports Development Fund, the national sports associations, and the National Olympic Committee of Thailand have been coordinating to prepare the 682 athletes from 47 sports associations.
The Governor highlighted that during the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, the Thai team secured 12 gold medals, 14 silver medals, and 32 bronze medals. The SAT has continued its support for the national sports associations in preparing athletes, building on the support from the 33rd Southeast Asian Games and the 6th Asian Beach Games in Sanya, China. With approximately three months remaining before the competition, the SAT remains focused on comprehensive team preparation to ensure readiness. It is expected that the performance of Thai athletes will surpass previous accomplishments.
Concerning the budget, team preparation, athlete participation, prize money for the Asian Games, and the 5th Asian Para Games scheduled from October 18-24, 2026, the SAT and the National Sports Development Fund have prepared and planned thoroughly. Dr. Kongsak also invited Thai sports fans to support the athletes through T Sports 7.
The 20th Asian Games will feature 43 sports with 469 gold medals available, including Aquatics, Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Baseball-Softball, Basketball, Boxing, Breaking, Padel, Canoe-Kayak, Combat Sports, Cricket, Cycling, Equestrian, Esports, Fencing, Hockey, Soccer, Golf, Gymnastics, Handball, Judo, Kabaddi, Karate, Modern Pentathlon, Rowing, Rugby Sevens, Sailing-Windsurfing, Sepak Takraw, Shooting, Skateboarding, Sport Climbing, Squash, Surfing, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis-Soft Tennis, Triathlon, Volleyball, Weightlifting, Wrestling, Wushu, and Teqball.
