Thailand’s Commitment to Climate Change Emphasized at Global Conference

Bangkok: Thailand has declared its stance on combating climate change, aiming to create a balance between the economy, society, and the environment. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment announced this position at the United Nations, emphasizing sustainable environmental management alongside building a stable economy and society.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Suchart Chomklin, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, tasked Ms. Darika Saranket, Advisor to the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, with attending the 7th Global Conference on Strengthening Synergies between the Paris Agreement and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This forum seeks to enhance cooperation between the Paris Agreement, the United Nations Economic and Social Affairs Agency's (UNDESA) 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The conference, held at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok, was attended by over 300 leaders from international organizations and government representatives worldwide.

During the meeting, Ms. Darika Saranket delivered a statement outlining Thailand's stance on climate change. She highlighted the importance of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to their impacts while focusing on sustainable economic and social growth. This approach involves national-level public participation and multilateral cooperation at the United Nations level to mitigate the risks of the global crisis. The statement reiterated Thailand's policy of balancing economic, social, and environmental development to achieve economic growth that supports the Net Zero 2050 goal, a priority for the government.

The conference serves as a platform for Thailand to showcase its international standing and commitment to transforming global commitments into concrete actions to meet the Sustainable Development Goals and climate change obligations. It aims to drive progress in the global sustainable development pathway beyond 2030, moving towards a future where societies are resilient to environmental challenges and economies are robustly developed and prepared to adapt to change.
