Thaksin Shinawatra’s Royal Pardon Brings Joy to Family

Bangkok: "Aim" was teary-eyed as her "father" received a royal pardon. Aim expressed that the Shinawatra family was overjoyed by Thaksin's acquittal, adding that she has been spending time at home with frequent visits from her nieces and nephews.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Pintongta Shinawatra Kunakornwong, her spouse Mr. Nattapong Kunakornwong, and Mr. Pitak Sukhsawat, husband of former Prime Minister Ms. Paetongtarn Shinawatra, participated in a merit-making ceremony. They offered alms to 149 monks at Sanam Luang to commemorate Her Majesty Queen Sirikit's 4th cycle birthday anniversary on June 3, 2026.

Ms. Pintongta, with emotion and tears in her eyes, stated that she was happy for her father and the family following former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra's royal pardon and release from prison. The family had discussed the matter minimally, simply expressing their joy for their family and others who received pardons.

When questioned about future family vacations, Mr. Nattapong mentioned that no plans have been made yet, but it is a joyous occasion. Regarding charitable activities, Ms. Pinthongta noted that her family routinely engages in charitable acts and, though travel will be easier now, they have not planned any special charity trips yet. She expressed feeling overwhelmed and speechless at the moment.

On the subject of legal procedures post-pardon, Ms. Pinthongta indicated that they are awaiting official notification. She stated that the family, including Ms. Paetongtarn, discussed the matter, expressing happiness over the peaceful conclusion of this chapter and the newfound freedom. Her father is more relaxed, which is an ultimate achievement for the family.

When asked about Mr. Thaksin's daily life, Ms. Pintongta mentioned that he is at home, enjoying a quiet time, with visits from his seven grandchildren. This period marks a serene chapter for the entire family.
