St. petersburg: OPEC Secretary-General Haitham Al Ghays anticipates robust growth in global oil demand this year. Speaking at an international economic conference in St. Petersburg, Russia, Al Ghays noted that there are no significant indicators suggesting a need to revise current oil demand forecasts. He highlighted the importance of maintaining investment in the oil sector, cautioning against allowing temporary, unforeseen events in specific regions to influence long-term industry investments.
According to Thai News Agency, OPEC's latest monthly oil market report, published on May 13, projects an increase in global oil demand by 1.17 million barrels per day in 2026 compared to 2025. This forecast is a revision from the organization's previous estimate in April. Al Ghays reiterated the continuing upward trend in oil demand, signaling confidence in the energy market's resilience and growth potential.
